Description
The welding equipment currently available at CAISA covers the main joining technologies for the different types of materials and thicknesses handled in our projects.
TIG Welding
Welding with argon gas. The machine welds with tungsten using a filler rod, utilising argon gas to prevent oxidation of the weld, while the machine incorporates a transformer with a bridge rectifier in direct current.
Coated Electrode Welding
Characterised by the creation and maintenance of an electric arc between the metal rod (electrode) and the workpiece. The coated electrode consists of a metal rod covered with a coating of non-metallic substances, depending on the characteristics required.
The coating used at CAISA is basic and rutile.
Technical Process
To perform an electric arc weld, a potential difference is induced between the electrode and the workpiece, which ionises the air between them making it conductive, thus closing the circuit. The heat from the arc partially melts the base material and melts the filler material, which is deposited and creates the weld bead.
Electric arc welding is commonly used due to the ease of transporting the equipment.
MIG-MAG Welding
A shielded gas arc welding process with a consumable electrode, in which the arc is produced by an electrode formed by a continuous wire and the pieces to be joined, protected from the surrounding atmosphere by an inert gas (MIG welding) or an active gas (MAG welding).
Characteristics
It is a versatile process, capable of depositing metal at high speed and in all positions. It is widely used in small and medium thicknesses in steel structures and aluminium alloys, especially where significant manual work is required.
